A story of an old mechanic

I recently read a story that impacted me deeply. A captain of a small fishing boat had a problem with the engine. He invited different mechanics, but no one could fix the issue. The machine just refused to start. Finally, he got a recommendation to ask for an old mechanic. The old contractor came with a large bag where he kept all instruments. He took time to inspect the engine and looked from every side possible. After a few hours of looking at the machine, he pulled a tiny hummer, hit it a few times in a single place and asked to start the engine. Everything magically worked. The captain, who observed what the contractor did, decided to ask how much that would cost him and asked for the bill. The contractor did not think for too long and replied — $1,002. The captain did not feel right about it as he saw that the contractor did not work too long and asked for the itemized bill. The contractor provided the following breakdown:

$1,000 — for inspection
$2 — to fix

We often estimate things by what we see and miss the main point. It is essential to know that it is easy to hit when you know where to strike.
